2024 Sixth Form Results

Grey Court Sixth Form: Faster, higher, stronger. Together.

In an Olympic Year where the GB team shared medal success across 17 different sports, Grey Court once again set the Gold standard with A*/Distinction* grades being distributed across 18 different subjects. “I am delighted that our strategic objective of boosting and widening our elite success has been met,” remarked headteacher, Christopher Rhodes, as he welcomed a host of beaming students through the school gates on results day. Maintaining our outstanding progress from 2023 we have once again recorded a “B’’ as our average A-level grade for the cohort.

The surge of elite results has facilitated entry into Oxford’s Worcester College for Noah Hall who will read Music whilst Minna Lipton and Scarlett Coburn have secured places at Cambridge to read HSPS and Philosophy respectively.  In addition, Exeter is the destination for Otti Day to read Medicine and Ben Chung will study Veterinary Science at The Royal Veterinary College. The Grey Court qualifications medal podium has also been graced by Summer Abzaliya-Mullen (A*A*A* A), Olivia Castro-Doncel (A*A*A*A), Imogen Collins (A*A*A*A) and Mikel Van Dyk (A*A*A*) all of whom reached the triple A* mark.

When asked to qualify the success of the current Year 13 cohort, Head of Sixth Form Form, Jane Higham, offered this appraisal: “At a time when the incoming government has highlighted how the curriculum has narrowed, I am encouraged that we continue to attract high numbers of students into arts and social science courses with 18% of English Literature students and 19.5% of Sociology students achieving A* grades. This complements the outstanding work of our STEM teachers where 50% of Mathematicians and Chemists hit the A/A* benchmark.”

A feature of the recent campaigns has been the strong performance of students studying BTEC qualifications and records once again tumbled this year with 75% of students gaining D/D* grades (up from 73% in 2023). Standout performances arrived in the form of Ruben Mauthner who achieved Distinction* in Creative Media and a Distinction in Enterprise as well as an “A” in his Geography A-level.  Ruben intends to study Business Management and Geography at Oxford Brookes. Additionally Zach Horn achieved Distinction* in Sports as well as an A* in Mathematics and an A in Biology and will take a place at Newcastle University to study Sport and Exercise Science. Moreover, the standout performance arrived in the form of Daria Kysil, who arrived in Grey Court from the Ukraine in year 11 with limited English. Daria achieved a D* in Creative Media to complement her grades of A*A*C in her A-levels and is now off to Warwick to study Film. Daria  noted that the results were the culmination of her own hard work and resilience alongside the care and support she had received from the Grey Court community.

This was a sentiment echoed by Headteacher, Christopher Rhodes, as he scanned the results papers.  “This is the first time Grey Court has achieved the Holy Trinity of sending students to study at Oxbridge, Medical school and Veterinary science.

Of course these results vindicate our most recent external review.  However, as the case of Daria highlights - this is about a community coming together.  It is about  teachers, students and parents, working collaboratively in pursuit of academic excellence for the young people that we serve.
