Pupil premium

Schools receive extra funding to help improve the progress and exam results of disadvantaged children and other students who need extra support. This is known as the pupil premium grant.
Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as their peers.

Schools get pupil premium funding for each child who:

• has received free school meals at any point in the preceding six years
• is, or has ever been, in local authority care 
• has parents in the armed forces.

It is up to schools to decide how to spend the pupil premium to improve attainment. It could be spent on aspirational trips and visits, on in-class support or on specialist counselling and therapy services.
